{Around the Homestead} A Week In Pictures | 8.8.14

I've been a lot more quiet on the blog and facebook over these past 2 weeks. I have had so much to do around the house and homestead, that extracurricular activities have had to wait. And rightfully so. I am often reminded, even more so recently, that my most important ministry is first and foremost to my household and the people within its four walls.

Everything else can, and will, wait....

Our week began with making homemade dog food. Yes, you read that right. We decided, about a month ago, that what our dog eats is just as important as what we eat. He would turn his nose up at his food, and honestly, who wants to eat the same.exact.thing. every single day for the rest of their lives?

I promised you on facebook that I'd have the recipes and information up on the blog this week....

Hmm, yeah, that didn't get done.

Week Lesson #1 -- don't make promises on facebook. Life can and will change its mind on you.

That old spinning wheel that sits in the corner of my living room....it hasn't been there for long. But it feels like it was meant to be there. It was my sisters, and she wanted it to have a good home since she didn't have the time to put into fixing it.

I hope it makes her happy to know that it's on display for everyone to see now :) Right under the old feed sack that my father-in-law found (one of many) in an old building he's working on.

I love it when people see things and say, "hey, weren't you looking for something like this?"

My only issue is that I take it, just because it looks cool, even if I didn't need it...but these, I needed.

Just like my husband, when he finds old jars and bottles and brings them home to me. My collection is ever growing.....I love this man....he doesn't judge my obsessive bottle and jar collecting....he knows better....

I rearranged my fermenting "station". I have way too many fermenting things on my counter-top....said no homesteader ever. From left to right -- kombucha (a week too fermented), sauerkraut (first batch, turned out awesome), sourdough starter, and, ummm.....I don't remember what's in the rooster thing! I should probably check on that....oops....

...as I was saying....never too many....ever.....nope....

We are in the process of renovating our basement to make a homeschool room before September. Help us, sweet Jesus. This particular flooring is a Costco special...score! This will be for the upstairs bedrooms. Oh, right, we're doing those too!

Just another day in the life of two homeowners who decided to purchase a fixer-upper over 6 years ago.

The "children" have kept me on my toes these past few weeks. Samson is the best dog we've ever had. I mean, it's amazing. God apparently knew what I needed when we brought that little puppy home. He is a mess, in a good way. And at 14 weeks old he was completely potty trained. He is the best dog, ever.

Junior....he's a mess in his own special way as well....a good way, of course! He is the only 4 year old (5 in just a couple weeks!) that I know who wears goggles in the shower. And then I think to myself,.....wait, he's the only 4 year old I know that even takes a shower.

Slow down, time...I'm not ready for this yet....

Before I know it he'll be asking to shave his face, borrow the jeep, hang out with friends at the piggly wiggle (I wish we had a piggly wiggly)....he already asked me earlier this week when his beard would start growing....

He has a pulmonologist appointment in two weeks for his asthma. We are praying for wisdom and the breath of God to be breathed down upon him so that we can figure this thing out. This mama has tried everything....

....and it is only after I have tried everything within my power to help him, that I say "it's all you now, sweet Jesus." Some days, I wish I would have said that sooner, rather than later....

It's in our hardest moments, when we have absolutely no control over our situations and completely surrender....completely, that Jesus truly does His most amazing work through the power of the cross. Forgive me for being such a control freak...because I am nothing compared to You, Lord!!!

I ordered my first bulk order of Essential Oils and I have been very pleased with the results I'm receiving from them. They arrived this week, and they are amazing. I split a batch with my sister-in-law so that it was cheaper for both of us.

It also proved my point that I don't have to order oils from a huge marketing company, or even a small middle man....these oils are just as pure as the other oils I've used....and half the price. My favorite part is that I got to pick and choose what size I wanted, what country I wanted the oils to be harvested from, and the purity of them. Yes, please!

John Deere fabric.....that is all....

I wrote a new song. Something I haven't done in a very long time. I've had this song stuck in my head for about a month, so I figured I better write it down before I lose it....confessions of a songwriter....

No, it's not about chickens or homesteading. Trust me, I saw you thinking...

In fact, it's not like any other song I've ever written. It has a "folky"/bluegrassy feel to it, and I always throw a little Jesus in there to (especially in the worship songs, of course!)

But this one is about my sweet little boy. So you know, it has to be awesome. You'll probably never hear it though....I like to write them, just not sing them in front of people. :)

That's about it for now...

We are gearing up for hunting season over here. It's always a special time of year, and I think Junior is actually going to get to go hunting with daddy this year. Ohhh my....

Happy end of Summer.....enjoy it while you can!

xoxo,
amy
