Dear Miley, You are worth more than you know {an open letter to Miley Cyrus}

Dear Miley,

I've read countless open letters to you this morning -- from bloggers, journalists, and moms. I've read open letters that moms have written to their daughters, asking them not to grow up and be like you. I've read letters belittling you, judging you, making fun of you. And while I found myself shaking my head in agreement with so many of them, there was one thing that I disagreed with more than anything. Not a single one of them told you how precious you are.

Did you know that now matter who you are or what you do, the God of all creation loves you? Do you know that He treasures you far more than rubies or gold? Do you know that He cherishes you and loves you unconditionally? Did you know that no matter how you see yourself, or hope that others may see you as, our Savior see's you as His precious daughter, a princess of the most high King? Did you know that as a princess of the most high King, He longs for you to dance with Him in slow motion, your feet on top of His, with a warm embrace that only a loving Father can give? Miley, I don't yet have a daughter, but I am one. The Lord saw fit for me to be blessed with a son, whom I love more than life itself. But as the mother of a son, I could only hope that he would treat a beautiful young woman such as yourself with utmost respect and unconditional love. Because, you see, you are not only a beautiful young woman, but you are also his sister in Christ. I would hope that when he is old enough, he will turn his head from young woman who see the need to flaunt their bodies -- not because you aren't beautiful, but because he cherishes you far more than jewels or riches in this world. You aren't a material item, Miley, you are a fragile young woman who should be cared for by a humble man with respect and true love. A man who will look after you. A man who will look at you every morning and say "you're beautiful just the way you are". You think those men aren't out there? Guess again. I married one. Why? Because I saw myself as a precious jewel that needed a strong and capable man to protect me. Am I weak? Maybe. But I have a husband who would never leave me for the 'body' of another woman. I have a husband who would never compromise what we have, simply for a brief moment of pleasure.

Most of all, Miley, I understand. While I've never stood on a stage and 'twerked' for anyone, I have stood on the stage of life at a young age, where everyone around me wants me to be something I'm not. Where everyone around me wants me to be more than I am, and more than I want to be. It's hard. It's overwhelming....especially when you are held to such high expectations growing up. I've been there. I made my mistakes, ones that I wish I could take back. But most of all, in the end, I realized how precious my life was to my Father in heaven. I realized how much He cares for me. After all, in Matthew 6:26 we're told, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

Miley, you are amazing. You have a gorgeous voice, a beautiful face and a smile that lights up a room. Please, don't let the hollywood world, the womanizers, the 'wannabe's', and the constant pressure grinding down on you change you into something you're not. Even though you might think you want to be that person right now, you aren't that person. You could influence the world by fame and fortune, or simply by being a nobody. You cannot influence the world by caring more about what other people think about who you are, rather than what you are. And you, Miley, you're a princess of the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the one who, at the end of your life, will be the only thing that matters. Does that mean you have to be perfect? No, far from it. But it does mean that you are precious, you are loved, you are respected by a man who came to earth and died for you so that you could wake up every morning and breath air into your lungs and go about your way. He simply wants you, and only you. And He could care less as to what you have to offer Him. It's amazing to think that the Creator of the universe could have anything He wants, and yet, the thing He wants the most is for us to draw close to Him, so that He can draw closer to us.

Miley, your life is precious, you are precious. You are worth far more than rubies; you are worth far more than this world. Princess, you are worth loving, unconditionally, and you deserve a prince who will take care of you and be your rock. Please, don't divert him away simply because you don't see your own worth....you are worth more than you know....
